Position Description

The Finance Assistant will support the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records, processing financial documents, recording transactions, maintaining proper filing systems, and assisting Finance Officers with financial reporting, reconciliation, audits, and other finance-related activities. The position holder will ensure that financial documents are properly reviewed, coded, recorded, filed, and maintained in accordance with AWEDO’s financial policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and ensure financial documents are complete, accurate, properly coded, and supported by the required documentation.
  • Record approved financial transactions and vouchers in the organization’s financial system.
  • Check the correctness and completeness of vouchers received from field and regional offices.
  • Maintain an organized financial filing system for both hard-copy and electronic documents.
  • Safely maintain original copies of finance-related documents.
  • Scan and copy financial documents when required for internal and external purposes.
  • Prepare financial vouchers and supporting documentation as assigned.
  • Follow up with relevant departments and staff to ensure required approvals are obtained.
  • Assist Finance Officers in preparing adjustment and correction entries.
  • Assist Finance Officers in facilitating internal and external audits.
  • Cross-check and verify financial documents received from field and regional offices.
  • Ensure that supporting documents are complete and properly attached to financial vouchers.
  • Assist with reconciliation of fund disbursements and payments.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial and organizational information.
  • Follow AWEDO’s financial, administrative, safeguarding, security, and other organizational policies and procedures.
  • Perform other finance-related duties assigned by the supervisor.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA), Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field is required.

Experience

  • At least 3–5 years of relevant work experience, preferably with an NGO or humanitarian/development organization.
  • Previous experience in finance, accounting, voucher processing, financial documentation, and reconciliation is preferred.

Other Qualifications

  • Full command of MS Office, particularly Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of accounting or financial management systems is an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Good organizational and filing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.

Languages

Fluency in English, Dari, and Pashto, both written and spoken, is required.
