Afghan Women’s Empowerment and Development Organization (AWEDO) is a non-governmental organization working to support women, communities, and vulnerable people across Afghanistan. AWEDO implements programs contributing to women’s empowerment, community development, education, livelihoods, protection, and other areas supporting vulnerable and underserved communities.
Position Description
The Finance Assistant will support the Finance Department in maintaining accurate financial records, processing financial documents, recording transactions, maintaining proper filing systems, and assisting Finance Officers with financial reporting, reconciliation, and audit-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Review financial documents for completeness and accuracy.
- Check supporting documents and proper coding of financial transactions.
- Record approved transactions and vouchers in the financial system.
- Check vouchers received from project and field offices.
- Maintain organized financial filing systems.
- Safely maintain original finance documents.
- Scan and copy financial documents when required.
- Prepare financial vouchers and supporting documents as assigned.
- Follow up with relevant staff regarding missing documents and approvals.
- Assist Finance Officers with adjustment and correction entries.
- Assist with internal and external audit preparations.
- Cross-check financial documents and supporting records.
- Assist with reconciliation of payments and fund disbursements.
- Maintain confidentiality of financial and organizational information.
- Ensure compliance with AWEDO financial procedures.
- Assist with monthly financial documentation and reporting.
- Perform other finance-related duties assigned by the supervisor.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field is required.
Experience
- At least 2–3 years of relevant work experience.
- Previous experience with an NGO or humanitarian/development organization is preferred.
- Experience in financial documentation, voucher processing, reconciliation, and filing is an advantage.
Other Qualifications
- Good command of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Knowledge of accounting or financial management systems is an advantage.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good numerical and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational and filing skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate financial records.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Languages
Good command of English, Dari, and Pashto, both written and spoken, is required.
