Position Description

The Gender and Inclusion Senior Officer will lead and support the implementation of gender equality and social inclusion approaches within AWEDO’s programs and projects in Afghanistan. The position will promote gender equity, inclusion of marginalized groups, and meaningful community participation through appropriate and participatory approaches.

Key Responsibilities

  • In close coordination with relevant Project/Programme Managers, develop and implement gender and inclusion guidelines aligned with AWEDO’s organizational goals and local context.
  • Conduct gender and inclusion assessments to identify barriers to participation and develop actionable plans.
  • Provide technical support to program teams to integrate gender and inclusion considerations into project design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Ensure that program activities are responsive to the needs of women, youth, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.
  • Design and deliver training for AWEDO staff and partners on gender mainstreaming, equality, and inclusive practices.
  • Develop indicators, tools, and approaches for measuring gender and inclusion outcomes and monitor progress against established indicators.
  • Collect and analyze relevant data to assess program impact on gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Represent AWEDO on gender and inclusion matters internally and, when assigned, with external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with local NGOs, government institutions, community groups, and other stakeholders to promote gender equality and inclusive development.
  • Prepare regular reports on gender and inclusion activities, challenges, achievements, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable donor requirements related to gender equality and social inclusion.
  • Follow AWEDO’s security policies, procedures, and daily instructions from designated security personnel.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.

Education, Qualifications and Experience

Education

A Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, International Development, or a related field is required.

Relevant certifications or professional training in gender equality, social inclusion, gender mainstreaming, or related frameworks will be an advantage.

Experience

  • Minimum 5–7 years of relevant professional experience in gender equality, gender mainstreaming, social inclusion, or related roles, preferably in a senior position.
  • Proven experience in project management, including designing, implementing, and evaluating gender-focused programs.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation frameworks related to gender and inclusion.

Other Qualifications

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct gender analysis and develop action plans based on findings.
  • Strong understanding of gender equality, social inclusion, and human rights issues.
  • Familiarity with international frameworks and conventions.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse communities, program teams, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel to AWEDO field offices when required.

Languages

Fluency in English, Dari, and Pashto, both written and spoken, is required.
