Community Protection and Safeguarding
Protection and safeguarding require communities to understand risks, recognize harmful practices, and know where appropriate support and referrals may be available. AWEDO’s initiative focused on awareness and community-level responsibility.
Activities promotes respectful behavior, dignity, safe participation, and awareness of risks affecting women and girls. Community discussions help participants consider how families, leaders, service providers, and organizations can contribute to safer environments.
A safeguarding approach also emphasizes confidentiality, responsible communication, and appropriate referral when a person needs specialized support. Awareness activities should avoid exposing sensitive personal information and should prioritize the safety and dignity of affected people.
AWEDO views prevention as a continuing process. Regular awareness, community engagement, staff capacity, and coordination with appropriate services strengthens protective environments and support safer participation for women and girls.
